The Diamond Jubilee

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee - 2012

We couldn't let the bank holiday weekend pass us by without marking the Diamond Jubilee as we enjoy the celebrations across the United Kingdom and beyond. The Queen's Diamond Jubilee; a glorious 60 years of service from Her Majesty beginning in 1952 and continuing to 2012 making the Queen Britain's second longest reigning monarch after Queen Victoria. Ascending to the throne in 1952 at the tender age of 25, the young Queen Elizabeth was always highly interested in the fashions of the time and the royal family continue to be a source of inspiration for designers across the globe.

The Jubilee celebrations began with a wet and windy pageant along the river Thames that included 1000 boats, the biggest event to be held on the River Thames since the 18th century. The Jubilee River Pageant saw an array of impeccably dressed royals whilst all eyes were firmly on the Queen as she stepped out in a white bouclé coat embellished with shimmering Swarovski crystals by designer Angela Kelly.

Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge looked stunning in an Alexander McQueen red dress with peplum top and pleated skirt detail finished with a demure brooch and nude patent heels. Prince William, Prince Harry and Prince Charles wore the expected naval uniforms adding a dash of military style to the proceedings. Whilst Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall chose a sophisticated cream dress coat by Anna Valentine.

Although the pageant was dampened by the onset of rain, spirits were not as the crowds continued waving and celebrating through the downpour. The festivities continued into the evening with an equestrian pageant showcasing the Queen's love for horses. Overall it was a successful day which took over 3 years of planning to come to fruition.

The Jubilee weekend continues with a concert featuring the biggest names in the music industry and finally finishing on Tuesday 5th with a Thanksgiving service and a carriage procession. Whatever your plans for the Jubilee weekend, here's hoping for wonderful weather and a thoroughly enjoyable weekend for all.
