The IKEA Hydroponic Garden

If you’ve always wanted to grow your own vegetables and herbs, but don’t have any space outside in which to set up a garden, IKEA has the perfect product for you. The Swedish furniture retailer just unveiled its new KRYDDA/VÄXER hydroponic garden, which allows anyone to easily grow fresh produce at home.

Hydroponics simply means growing plants in water without soil. With added nutrients and the right light, it allows you to garden in any small space all year round. Most of the vegetables we eat today are grown this way, and now you can do it too.

Instead of soil you simply use the absorbent foam plugs that come with the system. The foam keeps the seeds moist, without ever over-watering. When ready you can transfer them into their own pots and then put the pots into a growing tray, which comes equipped with a solar lamp, and a built-in water sensor to help you ensure your plants are neither under- or over-watered.

The IKEA indoor gardening set is set to launch in May. For more information see their website here, and also check out the video explaining more below.
