THE HISTORY

Ever since 1996 Jimmy Choo has been one of the world’s most iconic, luxury accessories brands, empowered by their ability to provide a style for every woman in a truly glamorous fashion – the brand had even by favoured by royalty, from the late Princess Diana to Kate Middleton. Now, Jimmy Choo footwear, handbags and clutches grace the wardrobe of every fashion lover, A-list celebrity and luxury boutique the world over.

The global brand was co-founded by Malaysian fashion designer Datuk Jimmy Choo, who was born into a family of shoemakers. Having funded his education at Cordwainers Technical College (now part of the London College of Fashion) through part-time work at restaurants and as a cleaner at a shoe factory, Jimmy Choo Ltd was eventually established with co-founder Tamara Mellon, the then British Vogue magazine accessories editor.

Tamara Mellon, having recognised Choo’s potential as a creator of high-end designer accessories, approached Jimmy Choo with the idea of launching a ready-to-wear shoe company. The brand received funding from Mellon’s father, and factories were sourced by Mellon in Italy, setting in motion one of the most successful luxury designer brands of today.
