Footwear: The Highs and Lows

adidas Originals

adidas Originals Tubular technology has been noted not only for it's eye-catching aesthetic, but for one of the most comfortable footwear innovations in adidas' history. The Tubular Doom in particular has been making bold strides for the three stripes brand, acting a definitive example of adidas' increasingly innovative footwear, going beyond mere traditional shoe design. First previewed in Paris Fashion week last summer, the footwear was inspired by '90s running technology. Available in a monochrome colour palette, the adidas Tubular Doom is lightweight and heavy on intricate design.

Alternatively, the staggeringly successful Ultra Boost running trainer has undergone some technical updates for 2016. Not only has the shoe's silhouette been revamped, but there has been a number of improvements in terms of the finer detail. The Ultra Boost now boasts a more supportive fit in the base of the upper, as well as increased breathability and flexibility on the top. The signature Primeknit design has resisted too many obvious changes except for a different type of knit for a more compact finish.

Giuseppe Zanotti

Just one look at Giuseppe Zanotti's footwear collection and it's clear to see that the Italian designer has taken inspiration from his DJ roots. The energy, suavity and glamour of the upmarket nightclub scene is projected onto Zanotti's range of Mid Top Trainers. The materials include glossy patent leather and soft suede, yet are juxtaposed against eye-catching metallic accents and bold, vibrant colours. For versatile, and instantly wearable style, some understated leather Mid Tops are the go-to. Alternatively, more stand-out pieces include the Zanotti x Kanye collaboration which features a baroque metal flame appliqués. Either way, with Giuseppe Zanotti footwear you're guaranteed serious luxe streetwear feel.

Filling Pieces

Amsterdam-based designer Filling Pieces has added a black elastic strip to their classic Low Tops. Demonstrating exactly why they are renowned for immaculate, sleek footwear, the new Low Top Elastic trainers are the perfect example of minimal, understated design. The shoe is crafted in full-grain Italian leather and is available in black and white.

For something a little more experimental, the theme of 'metamorphoses' is explored further with its latest Low Top Degrade Trainer. Deep blue fades to white as the contemporary shoe style incorporates new techniques, designs and leathers. An innovative use of leather techniques and three sole units is what has made the 'metamorphoses' collection a mile stone for Filling Pieces.

On what this project means to him, the label's creative director and founder Guillaume Philibert said, "The SS16 collection represents a milestone for Filling Pieces as a brand. The 'metamorphoses' collection stands for the transformation of our signature styles while maintain our core values."
