Going to a festival when it doesn’t rain can always make it that much better; with the sun beating down, your favourite artist playing on stage and an ice cold drink in hand, what else could you need?
However for us UK festival goers wearing wet and muddy clothes for the majority of the festival and getting soaked in the queue for the bar are just some of our favourite summer memories.
The real question is; Is Coachella really LA’s version of Glastonbury?
With over 40 years under their belt, Glastonbury definitely wins when it comes down to time. Coachella has only been partying since 1999, however it doesn’t always come down to the amount of time – rather more what each festival have given us.
Namely the biggest festival in the UK, Glastonbury has come a long way since the 70s. Starting as a festival with peace at the heart, these values are still celebrated today. Now accommodating the yearly growing crowds and pulling in many of the biggest names in music to headline their stages. On the other hand Coachella is still relatively small in comparison, at the beginning of its success story this well known festival has grown significantly in the last 15 years.
What really makes a good festival line up?
It is currrently hard to compare the two line ups as Glastonbury have only just announced the first few waves of the acts playing. However the festival organisers have just added Kanye West to their list, can we compare this to Coachella's offering of Drake? We will let you decide!
Both festivals fight to get the biggest and hottest acts headlining their shows, we must admit that Glasto always propose some of the best shake ups when it comes to their headliner choices.
Considered by many to be the kick off of the festival season, Coachella takes place relatively early in the year compared to British festivals. Taking place in sunny California, Coachella proposes a very different atmosphere to Glastonbury. Set amongst the sun and palm trees, festival goers are able to embrace the weather and the quirky fashion trends that go perfectly hand in hand. Glastonbury on the other hand is always held at the beginning of the summer season, as us festival goers know the weather can be unpredictable and everyone has to prepare for all seasons. Wellies and waterproofs are a must when tackling the typical British summer, however don't be foolish and leave the sunnies and suncream at home.
Coachella is ran slightly differently to Glastonbury when it comes to alcohol, drinking is only permitted in designated areas which both offer a very distant view of the main stages. Unlike British festivals that offer a range of bars around all of the stages, allowing you to drink whilst you enjoy the music. Alongside this festival goers at Glastonbury are able to bring their own alcohol into the campsite, which is a very different story to Coachella. Remember that you should always be cautious when drinking at festivals and definitely know your limits.
Unfortunately this year Coachella is now sold out, however don't worry as a resale of cancelled Glastonbury tickets should be back out to the public in April.
So why not decide for yourself and test out one of these world wide loved festivals?
As much as we would love to stay in the luxury camp sites or hotels in LA, or even Frank Sinatra's former home. Could we really leave the muddy fields, famous faces and sea of wellies that is Glastonbury behind?
We will leave this for you to decide!
