Based on the incredible true story of Olympic legend, Jesse Owens, Race is a film that focuses not only on the track star’s journey to the world stage but also on the race-driven tribulations of the 1936 Olympics held in a Hitler-run Berlin.
Though he only took part in that one Olympic Games he is still classed as one of (if not) the greatest and most famous athlete in track and field history, due to him winning 4 gold medals in the 100m, 200m, Long Jump and 4x100m Replay.
The title of the film does however carry a dual-meaning as Race delves into the complex issues of tolerance and triumph amidst an atmosphere of hate and tyranny.
The film stars Stephan James as Jesse Owens and costars Jason Sudeikis, Jeremy Irons, William Hurt, and Carice van Houten.
Already released in North America the film, which had a $5 million budget, has already taken well over $20 million at the box office.
Race is scheduled to open in UK cinemas on June 3rd, but you can watch the full trailer below.
