For Saint Laurent, and indeed for fashion lovers, Hedi Slimane’s four year tenure was game changing. Never one for convention, his final womenswear collection for AW 16/17 was shown in two parts, one at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, and the other at Saint Laurent’s home city of Paris.
And as the new season collection finally pours into Cruise, what has already been delivered and what more can we expect to arrive from the luxury French fashion house? There’s certainly a more mature feel to this season’s collection, drawing a clear contrast to SS16’s music festival inspired pieces. This time, things are more dramatic, more slick, more glamourous and less grunge.
Classic styles are revamped (how could you not adore the Tribute Heel) and key looks are made up of various luxurious fabrics from leather to suede, some finished with the iconic YSL logo in gold or silver tones. Elsewhere, thigh high boots make for a fashion statement fit for the most daring vixens.
Of course, animal prints make another appearance, even if it is ever so subtle – have you seen the Low Top Sneakers? An otherwise standard trainer is given an edge with the leopard print heel - very chic.
