When it comes to reviewing the fashion at this year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) Costume Gala it is, admittedly, rather overwhelming. With a whole host of Hollywood’s most celebrated and wealthy attendees (the event costs $30,000 per ticket) and a rather covert battle of ‘Best Dressed’ the number of eye catching styles is easily in the dozen.
Throw into the mix a quirky dress code, “Manus x Machina” (aka a fusion of fashion and technology) and you have an eye opening mix of interpretations; some stunning, some dazzling and some quite questionable – we’re looking at you and those blue contact lenses, Kanye.
Claire Danes in a Zac Posen gown
Actress Claire Dances, most notable for her performance in Homeland, certainly turned a few heads with her Zac Posen gown which transformed from a satin-look on the famous red carpet, to a luminous glow-in-the-dark number once inside the gala – very Disney princess-esque.
Kim and Kanye West in Balmain
Mr. and Mrs. West attended the event in Balmain – a not so surprising revelation. Taking the Manus x Machina theme quite literally, the duo were decked out in heavy embellishment of metallic silver. Kim also traded in her trademark dark brows for a lighter shade – a trend which wasn’t uncommon on the Gala’s red carpet.
Gigi Hadid in Tommy Hilfiger
Another duo who turned a few heads were the new romantic lovebirds Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malki. The 21 year old supermodel reportedly paid $2,000 dollars for her manicure, which rested on a bed of jewels, so we hear… Again, robotic minimalism was out in force with slicked back hair and a glossy (or should that be dewy) finish. We LOVE the glitter hair parting for a cute twist.
Rosie Huntington-Whitely in Ralph Lauren
Rosie Huntington-Whitely looked as stunning as ever in a floor length Ralph Lauren number. Although seeming to have evaded the theme almost entirely, we can forgive the British model and actress for pulling the Old Hollywood glamour look off so effortlessly.
Amber Heard in Ralph Lauren
Another bombshell in Ralph Lauren was actress Amber Heard who teamed the nude stain dress with a slick of deep red lipstick, a classic touch for a glamourous look.
Kendall Jenner in Versace
Ever the centre of attention, Kendall Jenner stole the show without even trying. Opting for a floor length cut away dress by Versace, we love how it’s been teamed with a minimal slick back pony-tail and white strappy heels. Statement dress, slick accessories – got it.
