Guy Garvey, frontman of British band Elbow, announced he is working on a solo side project.
Just four months after releasing his band’s latest album, Garvey has revealed he’s parting ways for a short period to concentrate on some solo material. Keen to dispel the term ‘solo’ from the unnamed project, Garvey said of the venture "I don't know what to call it. I don't like the term 'solo project', because it won't be that – I'll be inviting friends to play on it. I'll let the name pick itself as it progresses."
Wanting to take a break for the democratic song writing of band life, Garvey will take the reigns as the leading songwriter on an album that will feature the likes of Dove’s Jimi Goodwin.
Already working on the new Elbow album, Garvey explained: "I'm already working on lyrics for the next Elbow record, but I've also got a little bit of a side project on the go. I don't know what that's going to be. I'm going down to Real World Studios to write some songs and see where it goes. I love being in the honest and even-handed democracy that is Elbow, but I fancy being the boss for a bit, so I'm going to do a side project. It will either be great, and a right laugh, or a disaster, and a right laugh."
Although there’s no set release date for the project, with the promise of a number of high-profile collaborations twinned with Garvey’s song writing prowess, we’re certain it’ll be worth the wait.
