The Desert Cluster

If there is one place there’s very little use for a shipping container it’s in the middle of a desert, let alone 15 of them. That is unless you are designer James Whitaker who aims to build a stunning cluster of them in the Joshua Tree National Park.

Covering 2153 square feet this amazing creation can soon be found in one of the deserts within the Joshua Tree National Park in California……although it’s original destination was fair distance away.

Originally designed to be constructed and used as an office space in a German city a few years ago its creation never, but the plans were still in place, and in turn were snapped up by an LA film producer.

The producer has hired British-born Whitaker to oversee the building of it which will emerge from its rocky surroundings despite being positioned in a sloped gully to protect it from any extreme desert weather.

The stylish home will include a living room, kitchen, dining space, and three bedrooms, with each container orientated to maximise either views across the landscape as well as letting lots of natural light in, or provide privacy depending on it’s use.
It will also feature concrete flooring, white walls both inside and out, and sparse but striking furniture.  It will also feature a wooden deck and hot tub, and will all be powered by solar energy.
