Elisa is a mute, isolated woman who works as a cleaning lady in a hidden, high-security government laboratory in 1962 Baltimore. Her life changes forever when she discovers the lab's classified secret -- a mysterious, scaled creature from South America that lives in a water tank. As Elisa develops a unique bond with her new friend, she soon learns that its fate and very survival lies in the hands of a hostile government agent and a marine biologist.
Directed by Guillermo del Toro, and released by Fox Studios The Shape Of Water stars Sally Hawkins in the lead role as Elisa, and has an impressive approval rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes from 96 reviews from people that have been at one of the previews.
The film won the prestigious Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival, and also made its UK debut at the London Film Festival last month, although it isn’t due for release over here until February 18th.
