Celebrity Style: Sarah-Jane Crawford

With The X Factor back in full swing, we took the opportunity to steal Xtra Factor and BBC Radio 1xtra host Sarah-Jane Crawford to have a quick chat about her fashion influences and tips for the AW14 season, for the first of her guest posts.

DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE

I love a bit of sparkle. Not necessarily blinged out, but something that has an impact and an interesting element. Good quality clothes with great architecture are so important. Today, for example, I’m wearing black silk trousers, pumps and a white Peter Pan collar shirt with stilettos. It’s tailored and traditional, but with a twist.

MUST HAVE LOOK FOR THE SEASON?

AW14 is all about the powder coat. It hides a multitude of sins and you will always look good as long as you have one. You also need a good pair of boots and a luxurious Joseph wraparound coat.

WHAT YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?

My navy and brown Chanel pumps! They are perfect for the colder season, whether you want to wear them with jeans, a skirt or trousers.

YOUR ONE FASHION TIP?

It is so important to wear clothes that fit. There is nothing worse than ill-fitting clothes; you need to be comfortable in with you’re wearing. You could have spent a large amount of money on a beautiful designer piece, but if you’re always pulling it up or down then it will just look cheap.

THREE THINGS EVERY WOMAN SHOULD HAVE IN HER WARDROBE?

The first thing would definitely be a white shirt; but make sure it’s silk and good quality. It’s perfect for every occasion. You also need a good pair of court shoes, in any colour – but darker is more versatile. And finally every woman needs a good pair of investment jeans, such as a pair from 7 for All Mankind.

WHO’S YOUR STYLE ICON?

I’m not really into other people’s styles, I prefer to define my own look. But if it had to be anyone I’d say Sade. She’s timeless.

HOW IMPORTANT IS FASHION?

Fashion is very important. It is a way to express your personality and creative side. It can also be aspirational. If someone has worked hard to be able to wear a brand that both themselves and others admire, then it makes you feel good about yourself.

WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO X FACTOR LOOK?

I’m always conscious to dress for my size so I make sure it’s demure and clear. I will definitely be glamming it up for the live shows.
