The creative weirdos (their words not ours) over at Super Deluxe have put together a short but fun animation on the History Of Video Game Controllers, and it’s well worth a watch.
Now whilst it is always the computer / base unit / console that gets the praise and is the reason why billions upon billions of pounds is spent each year by ‘gamers’ it really would be nothing without the little old controller. After all it's the controllers that we connect with. We hold them tight at tricky and critical moments, hammered them as we win battles, races, matches and a whole lot more, and throw them across the room in frustration.
In the near 60 years of controllers we have evolved from the very rudimental Tennis For Two in 1958 to the ultra hi tech world of Virtual Reality in 2016 with the Oculus Rift headset.
The big (and by that we mean million and millions of pounds) question now is where do we (as a gaming society) go from here? You can be sure, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, PlayStation, and a whole many more companies are already working super hard on it.
Anyway take a look at the video below and see how many of these you have used over the years.
