With just under a month until its release, we can finally take a glimpse at the upcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic, Jimi: All Is By My Side.
Starring Outkast’s Andre Benjamin (a.k.a Andre 3000) as the man himself, All Is By My Side begins with Hendrix in New York in 1967 before tracking his big move to London and iconic performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in ’67.
The film – which was written and directed by 12 Years A Slave’s John Ridley - did not secure the rights to use original recordings of Hendrix’s music, however it will feature performances of Hendrix’s classic covers of ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’, ‘Hound Dog’, and ‘Wild Thing’ by Andre Benjamin.
Benjamin – who studied all aspects of Hendrix in order to give the most accurate performance possible – is said to have practiced for 6 hours a day in the build up to the film to be able to play the songs left handed.
The film was first screened at the 2013 Toronto International and South by Southwest film festivals and received rave reviews from critics and the media.
Jimi: All Is By My Side is due for release in the UK on August 8 2014, watch the trailer below.
