LANVIN: Ten Years of Lucas Ossendrijver
“I like clothes that live. Clothes that age with dignity and elegance. A piece of clothing is designed to be of service, to accompany the wearer. It should emphasise a personality, not overpower it. The worst transgression of taste is uniformity.”
In coherence with the highly anticipated Lavin Spring/Summer 2016 menswear collection, Lucas Ossendrijver celebrates 10 years at the helm of men’s ready-to-wear. Having had an extraordinary impact on the French brand’s identity, Ossendrijver encapsulates Lanvin perfectly: “When I think of Lanvin, the first words that come to mind are suits, beautiful fabrics, and luxury.”

Lucas Ossendrijver re-imagines the look of the Lanvin man every season, combining impeccably cut suits and class tailoring traditions with volumes and details borrowed from sportswear. Raw seams, metallic pieces, washed effects, and leather inlay are among some of the factors which contributes to the style of the Lanvin man – a figure who Ossendrijvery describes as “more confident, calmer, more focused”.
With Lanvin’s history of style and freedom, it’s resolutely clear that those same motifs are prevalent in the Spring/Summer 2016 ready-to-wear collection. For Lucas Ossendrijver, luxury is synonymous with freedom: “a certain way of being, of moving.”
It is the desire to remain detached from a definitive point of inspiration which makes Lanvin so unique. In an interview for Dapper Dan, Ossendrijver explained how: “You try to make the references as light and as neutral as possible so that there’s just a hint that’s there for people to feel… I like that in fashion you can find your own interpretation of things.”
