“STRICT DRESS TO KILL CODE WILL BE ENFORCED” Inside Marc Jacobs x Gloss Party

NO FLAT SHOES. NO MATTE SURFACES. NO NATURAL LOOKS."

The closing sentence encapsulates it all. ‘No natural looks’. By contrast, the Marc Jacobs NYFW party was clad in glitter, glamour, and gaudiness. Abiding by a strict dress code, guests to the Jacobs-sponsored book launch of Gloss – an eclectic collection of photographs of the 1970s disco Studio 54 – arrived in an eye opening array of fashion forward ensembles.

Despite fervent efforts to locate a white horse as means of entrance, one guest, Oliver Francis, a Middlesbrough-born Graphic Design student at Fashion Institute of Technology, tells us of how his customary on foot arrival was contrasted by an over the top and other worldly welcome.

“It was insane! It was essentially just like Studio 54. Everything was dramatic. There were drag queens, supermodels, singers, designers and editors everywhere you looked. I spotted Solange Knowles, Coco Rocha, Jamie King, Laura Love. Oh, and Laverne Cox."

“There were cars right in the middle of the club. They looked like they had been smashed up, they even had mannequin legs jutting out of windscreens. There was lots of fire too."

“The music was good. It wasn’t what I expected. A mix of disco, soul and funk classics, but it all seemed to fit together really well."

“What did people wear? Jumpsuits. And roller-skates. And sequins. Tonnes of sequins. Waiters were drifting about topping up champagne when necessary. They looked like supermodels themselves, to be honest."

But not every aspect of this grandeur party was dream like:

"By the way, did I mention it was absolutely chucking down?"

Oh well, at least there is a tiny bit of solace in not going... Watch this space for more snaps and inside glances!
