To coincide with London Fashion Week Paul Smith took Acquire Magazine out for a spin earlier this week in his uniquely designed Paul Smith Edition Defender, and talked about his beginnings in the fashion industry, his love for the vehicle, and reasons for collaborating with Land Rover.
Last year we brought you the news here that Land Rover had enlisting the sartorial acumen of top designer Paul Smith to create a customized one-off of the iconic off-roader.
As a longstanding fan of the Land Rover Defender, and someone who has owned several of the vehicles Sir Paul jumped at the chance to collaborate with them, which he did with the assistance of their special design team at the state-of-the-art manufacturing centre at Solihull.
Now in this short film he takes the Defender out for a drive and discusses his beginnings in the fashion industry and the unlucky and lucky happenings that have brought him to where he is today as a worldwide name in fashion.
He also talks about the vehicle means to him, and is quick to point out some of the crossover attributes between his brand and that of the Land Rover such as being fun and function, classic and playful, with practicality and something that promotes individuality, as well as both having a honest history.
