Although only in it’s second year the Siena International Photo Awards has attracted huge participation from the photography community with almost 50,000 entries from 130 countries, and some of the most stunning a breathtaking photographs of 2016.
Chosen by a jury there were 11 category winners (Storyboard, Wine, Sport, Architecture, Wildlife, Nature, People & Portrait, Travel, Open Monochrome, Open Colour, Student) , and an overall winner, which this year went to French photographer for his ‘Sardine run’: a highly evocative photograph immortalising marine predators hunting during the migratory period of sardines along the coast of South Africa. The winning picture can be seen below.
The contest is open to all photographers, professionals, enthusiasts and new talents from all around the world, with the winner taking home:
- € 1.500,00 worth of photography equipment + SIPA Contest Photographer of the Year Pangea Prize
- 2 overnight stays in Siena during the weekend of the Award Ceremony and Special Guest at the Gala Dinner
- Advertising on international press and on main online media
- Publication in our online gallery

The Awards Ceremony mentioned above is ‘Beyond The Lens’, a collective exhibition displaying the winning photographs of SIPA Contest 2016, and is being held at the Magazzini del Sale of Palazzo Pubblico di Siena, in Piazza del Campo. Two themed exhibitions will also be held throughout the Festival, the result of a selection of the photographs competing for the Wine and Storyboard categories. The first is being held at Enoteca Italiana, in Fortezza Medicea, while the second is just a short distance away in Piazza del Campo, at the prestigious Accademia dei Rozzi building.
