For the second time, FIFA has commissioned the luxury brand Louis Vuitton to design a case to carry and transport the solid gold World Cup winner’s trophy.
The bespoke trunk, which was first used in South Africa 2010 when Spain were the victors, was hand-crafted in Louis Vuitton’s legendary Asnières workshop and its exterior is completely adorned with the classic LV monogram. The one-of-a-kind, signature trunk also features brass locks, canvas panels and hardware corners and will transport the trophy to the iconic Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro on July 13 where the World Cup winners will be crowned.
Louis Vuitton has a history of association with major sporting events and, remarkably, made the trunk that holds the world’s oldest trophy, the America’s Cup, dating back to 1851.
