Moncler’s team of mountaineers have reached the summit of K2 on the 60th anniversary of the world’s most treacherous mountain’s very first ascent.
Way back in 1954, two Italian mountaineers kitted out in Moncler down jackets were the first ascensionists to conquer K2, the second highest mountain on earth. Infamously known as the ‘Savage Mountain’, the K2 isn’t as big as Everest but the climb is much more challenging and has claimed the life of one in every four who've attempted the feat.
With that said, it brings us great pleasure - not to mention relief - to announce that Moncler’s team of Italian and Pakistani adventurers reached the summit of K2 on July 26, six decades after the maiden achievement. The aptly named ‘K2 – 60 Years Later’ expedition was set up to celebrate Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni’s magnificent 1954 accomplishment and highlights Moncler’s important involvement in the initial quest.
The expedition also pays homage to French mountaineer Lionel Terray, as without his expert specialisation of the Moncler down jackets, the fate of the two 1950s climbers could have been gravely different.
Following in the footsteps of their predecessors, the 2014 team utilised the unrivalled functionality, warmth and luxury of Moncler’s high-tech apparel. The ‘K2 – 60 Years Later’ collection consists of six specialised protection jackets and - whilst giving a huge nod to Terray - will be available as part of Moncler’s autumn/winter 2014 range.
The brand's new collection will be available from October, and you can view the current range of luxury outerwear on our Moncler page.
